

Sister Margaret Callahan, C.S.J., age 103, passed away on Monday April 29, 2024 at St. John of God Retirement Center in Los Angeles, California. She was born Marion Agnes on August 11, 1920, the oldest of four children in a close-knit family. Sister Margaret had been proud to be the “oldest member” of the Province.
Following graduation from St Mary’s Academy in 1937, she entered community and in March 1938 received the name Sister Margaret Alacoque. For 27 years, she taught high school Spanish, history and math. Sister had diverse interests and ministries in education and pastoral care. Her hobbies included reading mysteries and Western stories, sewing, and doing crossword puzzles. Sister Margaret was strong and dignified with an intensity that was softened by an unusually calm and steady nature. She was astute and said what she meant.
She is survived by Ken Anding and his family, many nieces and nephews and life-long friends.
