Stella Trujillo Varey, a cherished member of the South Bay community, gracefully passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Born in New Mexico, Stella dedicated 40 years as an early childhood education teacher and mentor in the South Bay Adult School system, leaving an indelible mark on countless children and their families.
Known as one of the most affectionate souls ever encountered, Stella earned a reputation for making the world a brighter place through her boundless love and kindness. Her two classroom rules were to be kind and to be safe. We can all benefit from reflecting on those.
Stella is survived by her siblings, Emily, Ben, Patti, and Terry; her three children, Don (Diana), Rick (Karen), and Kim (Dan); her three grandchildren, Danielle, Jake, and Sarah; and her great-grandson, Sullivan.
To allow plenty of time for travel plans, we will hold a funeral mass to honor Stella right before the start of Summer. The service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 10, 2024, at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach, CA. A simple reception will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella's name can be made to The Friendship Foundation - Stella Varey Memorial Fund (networkforgood.com). She asked to help underprivileged families with special needs in the South Bay. All funds donated will support this population.
May Stella's words bring solace: "There will always be an invisible string from my heart to yours." That string extends to Heaven.
