Dearest Steve, We are so very sorry that our precious Sylvia did not win her battle. She fought long and hard and we are deeply saddened by her passing. She was such a precious woman and we will always remember her kind and generous soul. I first met her at the Farmers Market years ago. She was selling jewelry and had this beautiful radiant smile that would melt an iceberg. I will never forget that day.Out of all of the vendors, she was the one that made me want to return. Then I met the two of you at The Corner Store and was so touched by the story of your lives. A devoted couple full of love and laughter! The last time that we saw Sylvia she looked tired but happy to be out in public. She was such a people person and didn't want to miss our Miracle on 37th St. event. Even though she was so sick and weak, she came and even brought a dish! What an incredible woman! She was so selfless and kind to others. Thoughtful and generous. We will miss her so very much. I met Sylvia at Las Hermanas at the Torrance YMCA.  She became a good friend.  She and I shared tea with her granddaughter at Mishi's in San Pedro and she and Steve were able to come this past July 4 to my neighborhood's 44th annual block party.  She was so happy to be there and, as usual, she brought her great dishes to share with everyone.  Las Hermanas will go to tea on May 5 at Bristal Farms in Manhattan Beach and there will be a place for her.  Until we meet again and share a cup of tea.

Steve, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and our prayers are with you.  Sylvia was a very good friend.  In the early years we visited quite often at her home.   She always was involved with her crafts and cooking. Through the years we kept in touch through phone chats and Frank and I seeing her at craft shows.  I was happy that Frank and I got to visit her at the hospital and had great conversations reminiscing about the times.  I truly believe she was going to be with us a little longer. She was always positive and continued to look forward to a new day. I will miss you dearly, Sylvia. Steve, she was fortunate to have you by her side.

When I heard of Sylvia's passing, I thought about all our conversations.  We spoke about San Pedro, food, making Danish cookies and Rainbow girls.  However, I never took time to ask her about her family.  I wish I had because today I found out that her daughter, Angelique, was my son's first child care director at Hickory in Torrance.  What a small world!  Angelique, I am very sorry about your mom and I wish we could have talked more.

To Sylvia's Family, It seems as if I've known Sylvia almost my whole life. She was the friendly out going neighbor around our block. I remember fondly the beautiful way she would decorate her home inside and out for every holiday. All the wonderful craft shows we did together in her home. Her most delicious fruit cake she would make (and I don't usually like fruit cake.) We'd travel from craft show to craft show together. She was one amazing LADY with all her hardships she rarely complained. Years went by and after she moved away I would see her smiling face at our farmers markets and street fairs. I know she loved the LORD and I find comfort in that and that she is no longer suffering. Thank you for all the memories dear friend. I will miss you. Your family is in my prayers. Sylvia was a beautiful person and will be missed by all.      Our thoughts and prayers our with her family.   May you rest in peace.

Sylvia was the most loving and giving person I have ever met.  She was always giving to others, even during times when she was ill herself. She constantly showed her love and appreciation for her friends. Many of us lost a hero with the passing of Sylvia.  Her family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Family, friends and community have lost a great & selfless person.    My thoughts and prayers are with    Sylvia's family and friends.

There are no words to express the loss of a cherished and loyal friend.  Sylvia will truly be missed.  However, we still have our beautiful memories, which will live forever.  I will cherish our carefree days at Wilmington Jr. High School as we sang and danced to James Brown's, "Night Train" during gym class.       The last words I heard from her when she was at City of Hope were, "Goodbye Night Train!"        God Bless you as you sleep with the angels my dear friend!

In a short 6 months, Sylvia became a most beloved friend to me as she had been to my mother for many years. She "fought the good fight" so long and so hard.  We are forever grateful for her and Steve.      Jim and Diane Babcock

Sylvia was a wonderful character and beautiful person.  I'm glad that I had the chance to meet her.  My heart goes out to Steve and to Sylvia's family for their loss.

Sylvia's spirit and joy for life live on in all that knew her.    There wasn't a tougher woman to ever walk this earth.
