Ta Lan Huang, age 86, a resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 14, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. Ta Lan, known as Donlad, was born to Bai-Cheng Huang and Hui-Qing Chen, on September 12, 1937, in China. He was the sixth of eight children. His parents ran a successful business in Fuzhou in the province of Fujian. After the communist party took over China in 1949, the family moved to Taiwan and resided in Taipei.
Ta Lan graduated from National Taiwan Normal University with a degree in English. After graduating, he ventured into various business fields, such as imported children‘s shoes and imported food for western restaurants.
In the 90s, Ta Lan moved to Los Angeles, California. He spent the next 20+ years enjoying life. For fun he enjoyed singing, traveling, spending time with friends, watching sports, and tasting great food. Ta Lan had won numerous singing awards from the Joint Chinese University Alumni Association of Southern California’s Karaoke Contests. He was invited as guest singer to various venues and as judge for the karaoke contests.
Ta Lan knew the best food in town. Whenever his daughters came to visit, he brought them to the best restaurants. It was not necessarily expensive but guaranteed delicious. He would order a table full of dishes and enjoyed the time together.
Coming from a family believing in folk religion, Ta Lan first heard about the gospel in 2005. Upon knowing he was a sinner and sinned against God, God loved him that He sent Jesus the Savior to die on the cross for him and resurrected after three days, he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and reconciled with God. From that point forward, he was clear that Jesus is his Savior and God is the only true God. He knew God’s abundant love for him.
Thankfully, with faith, Ta Lan was able to fight against prostate cancer and end stage renal disease with bravery. For four years being in and out of the dialysis center and cancer clinics, he never gave up or lost hope. Throughout his entire journey, he was motivated and optimistic.
He is survived by his daughters: Jolin (Wilson) and Lilian (Keongaik); his three grandsons: Joshua, Nathan and Elijah and his sister Wendy who took care of him with no complaints for 15 years.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday October 16th , 2023 followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy Houston, Texas 77079. A graveside service will occur at 12:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079.
