Thomas Darcy Haire

Thomas Darcy Haire, a resident of the South Bay, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in his Rancho Palos Verdes home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Los Angeles, California, Tom was 78 eight years old when he died. He served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard for 3 years and climbed the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department where he served for 26 years. He retired as Captain II of the South Traffic Division and held various posts including Commanding Officer of Patrol, Detectives and Traffic Divisions. He was a member of several law enforcement organizations and was a dedicated professional. Tom acquired a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State University Los Angeles and then received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Pepperdine University. In retirement he pursued a career as a commercial real estate broker and authored a book, "The Job Getters Bible." A devout Catholic, Tom also volunteered as a Eucharistic minister for the homebound for both St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes and St. Lawrence Church in Redondo Beach. An avid sportsman, Tom liked to hunt, camp and bike, and he loved to fish. Nothing made him happier than sharing these activities with his children and grandchildren. His loving family will miss him, but they are comforted by the thought that Tom has gone to receive his eternal reward.Tom is survived by his wife of 23 years, Consuelo; two sisters, Mary of Rancho Palos Verdes and Patricia of San Bernardino; a brother, James, of Rancho Palos Verdes; 5 children; 4 step-children and 15 grandchildren. Tom and Consuelo were married in 1987 after having lost their first spouses to cancer. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at McCormick Mortuary in Redondo Beach. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Redondo Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. Interment at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes will follow and a reception to celebrate his life will be held at the Los Verdes Country Club from 2:00 to 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent or made out to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet.
