From an early age, Todd was drawn to the military, firefighting and rescue, and law enforcement. Those childhood interests grew into a lifelong commitment to service and helping others. He began his career with Loomis Armored Services before finding his calling as a medic. His work took him to Texas, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, and Minnesota, giving him the opportunity to use his knowledge and skills to help others in many different places.
Todd was a lifelong learner in every sense of the word. An avid reader, he was always eager to learn something new. When he wasn't reading simply for enjoyment, he was reading for a class or course. He continually pursued classes and training to expand his knowledge and sharpen his skills. His curiosity and desire to keep learning were defining qualities throughout his life.
Music was another of Todd's great loves. He enjoyed many genres, but when it came to his all-time favorite, there was no contest: KISS was king! His love of music was just one of the many things that brought him joy throughout his life.
Those who knew Todd will especially remember his remarkable sense of humor. He had a gift for telling a completely unbelievable story with a straight face and such conviction that you were never quite sure whether he was telling you the truth. Whether he was pulling your leg or simply sharing one of his many stories, Todd could leave people laughing and wondering just how much of what they had heard could possibly be true. That humor was uniquely his and will be deeply missed.
Todd is survived by his daughter, Sara Filener; his parents, Dave and Kathy Filener; his sister, Kellie (Jose) Olivencia; his Godmother and Aunt, Mary Filener; cousins Keely (Rick) Van Zee, Ginny (Bob) Kaiser, Brenda Solomon, Barry Kaiser, Krystal Kaiser, DJ Solomon, and Kaylie Solomon; and dozens of additional cousins, aunts, and uncles who were part of his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Enda Filener; his maternal grandparents, James and Margaret Daly; his Godfather and Uncle, Ray C. Filener; and his cousin, Cathy Reilly.
Todd leaves behind a legacy of laughter, learning, service, and stories that will be remembered for years to come. While his stories may not always have been believable, the love and memories he leaves behind are very real.
Rather than a traditional celebration of life, family and friends are invited to an open-house-style gathering at Todd’s parents’ home on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
