My sincere sympathies go out to you. I was shocked and saddened to hear the news last month. Vince impacted so many people in different ways. For me, I will always remember his patience, his intellect, his laugh, his kindness, his professional and moral support, and most of all his big heart. Vince was the type of man that could truly be described as a "good man"; someone that those around him strived to emulate. His legacy will live on in those that he touched. He will be profoundly missed.

A little over a week ago, I learned that Vince had passed away. I read the words in Terrill's letter over and over, unable to comprehend them. Leaving us at such a young age was completely unexpected.       Vince and I met at Hughes Aircraft 30 years ago when I was on a one year assignment from Spar Aerospace to work on Anik D. It was easy to make a â‚¬Å“connectionâ‚¬ with Vince. He was gifted with an ability to relate to others quickly and effortlessly through his calm demeanor and great sense of humour. Vince and Terrill extended their hospitality to me, introduced me to their friends and together we enjoyed many good times (partying, climbing Snake Mountain, cross country skiing in Yosemite, making egg rolls, â‚¬oh, and did I mention the parties?). Memories of my L.A. visit remain vivid and timeless largely due to Vince.       After my one year was up I headed home, but I never forgot Vince and Terrill or the recipe for spaghetti sauce Vince gave me and sustained me during my bachelor years. We maintained contact over the years and I always looked forward to his emails which were loaded with his wry sense of humour. I will miss him.

I was shocked today to hear of Vince's death. He and I were Hughes rotators together 30 years ago. We had much in common since I was from just up the river in Peoria and we both went to the University of Illinois. I have very fond memories of parties at Vince and Terrill's apartment in Westchester. He was a great guy and will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember Vince from PCHS in Pekin, IL.  I am saddened to hear of his passing and pray for his family.

I just found out the very sad news about Vince's untimely passing earlier today (14 August).  I have such great memories of Vince, who helped me get through Professor Gockel's very difficult finite element structures class in grad school at USC.  We worked at Hughes Space & Comm together for several years, way back. I will always remember he told me about wanting to open a Chicago style pizza parlor - he had a secret family recipe.  He was a great friend and a great spirit.

Terrill and Family, Aunt Delores and the Cascia clan, you all are in my prayers. I remember Vince to this day as the biggest jokester I have ever meet. It was always a great time getting together in St. Louis with all the Cascia's and Fister's. God Bless You.

I only visited with Vince when we were children and Uncle Vito and Aunt Delores would visit Nani for a vacation. That would probably be about 45 years ago and possibly longer. From spending time with the family last week & reading these notes, I realize how much I missed out on by not being closer to Vince, Terrill, Krista, and Jamie. Distance is a factor, and we only got together at family gatherings where everyone was always on their bestest behavior. I only saw a glimmer of the jokester in Vince, but it was clear that he was a kind, loving family man.   One thing Vince & I had in common was responsibility for the care and feeding of a Smithers sibling. Even though this always rewarding activity comes with some challenges, Vince was an expert at enjoying every minute of it.   Vince made everything seem easy - whether it was raising two baby girls to to strong, confident women, climbing mountains, or designing space satellite stuff. When Vince said, "I got it covered," you knew everything was under control.   Mike & I were fortunate to have a visit from Vince & Terrill when they were on their way to a family reunion. During good-bye hugs, I was hopeful that the visit brought the start of a closer, deeper friendship. Terrill and the girls can depend on Mike and I to commit to that and help them in any way we can.

To Vince's Family,           I am very sorry for your loss.  Vince contributed to so many space programs that helped keep our country safe and changed the world for the better.  We will miss his expertise and his friendship and remember his as a true gentleman who left us far too soon.

Dear Terrill , Krista and Jamie,       We are so sorry that we were unable to be there for you, but, we certainly have you in our thoughts and prayers a lot. I wish I could help with the pain you must have. Please know that we are here if you want to visit , call or write.        So glad I was able to visit with you a couple of years ago at Deloresâ‚¬â„¢ 80th. Vince was so good and fun as usual. But, some of my best memories are the fist memories I have when he was a little boy and came to visit us. He was in awe of the buffalo here in Okla. I have known Vince for only a few months, but I really enjoyed the interaction I had with him over this short time.   Vince was able to combine an accute technical approach to our program issues while keeping some type of "laid back" attitude that made dealing with those technical issues so much easier.   One of the nice sides of my job is that I get to meet very talented, dedicated and interesting people over the course of a satellite program.   Vince was one of those and I will miss the opportunity to interact with him over the course of the program.

The first time I spent any time with Vince was driving him and my sister Terrill to the mall. As usual T and I started at each other - only as sisters and brothers can. Vince let us go on for a minute and then stopped us with a few words and a smile. After that moment I knew that I didn't have to worry about my big sister anymore. She had found the perfect person to share her life and to love and protect her.       I wish my wife and I had had spent more time with Vince. He was a very dear and special person.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  Vince was a great guy - smart, knowledgeable, and easy to get along with.  He was always helpful and his advice was sought by many. We will miss him.

I really, really enjoyed working with Vince.  He created a wonderful environment, a real genuine esprit de corps where everyone's opinion was considered and success for the team was not unattainable but readily achieveable.

Vince and I worked together for only a few months as chief engineers on this new program.  Yet working with Vince was one of the things I was most looking forward to on the job.  He was so talented, but also gracious, patient, and fun.  I know we would have become very good friends.  It is rare that you meet someone whom you thoroughly like so quickly.  I can only imagine what the family is feeling, and you have my deepest sympathies.  I hope it is some consolation to know that Vince was so respected and valued as a friend and colleague, and will always be remembered.

Our lives are filled with unexpected events and this is the hardest one I have experienced in many years. Vince worked diligently for us on TSAT for 4 to 5 years and was the cornerstone of many successes we had on the program. There were only a handful of people who could make a program effective and exciting, and bring their own balanced life perspective into an overly challenging environment at work. Vince was a leader, mentor and a real gentleman. He treated people  with kindness and respect.  We will miss his calm, his wise judgement, and his self-deprecating sense of humor.

Vince was a very special and unique person. Besides his significant knowledge and understanding engineering problems, he very much enjoyed reading and was knowledgeable in diverse disciplines. Most of all, he was compassionate, warm, friendly, modest and always ready to mentor and support others.

I’ve known Vince since 1982, first as a boss then as a very dear friend.  I’m not sure what it was about Hughes Aircraft Company, but it attracted very exceptional people.  I’ve been blessed to meet many, many wonderful individuals over the years at Hughes.  Many of them are my closest friends and I love them like family.  Vince’s passing leaves a huge hole in the fabric of all of our lives.  We are very fortunate to have each other to fill some of that void.  Lunch at Richmond’s, golf, fantasy football, poker at TG's, wine tasting and sharing life’s journey will never be the same.  I’m so very grateful to have known him and have him as a role model and a part of my life.  I will miss him every day and remember him for the rest of my life.

Terrill and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Vince was a friend to everyone he met, and I will miss him dearly - the days of softball and touch football, the antenna picnics and Christmas parties, lunch on Fridays, poker games, and too many hours of work together.  No matter the circumstance, he was always a pleasure to be around, and he always expressed his love for and pride in his family.  A truly honest and good man.

I had only known Vince through Steve "Bags" Bagnasco monthly floating poker game. Our time together was far to short.  I will miss his wit, charm and sportsmanship (his pleasantries and good nature were the same whether winning or losing).  He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

I am one of Vince's first cousins.   Growing up, I spent several summers living at the Cascia family home in Pekin after Vito Cascia, Vince's Dad, passed away. I spent most of my time hanging out with Neil, but I got to know all of the boys and Diane better. What a wonderful family. I remember Vince as funny and kind â‚¬â€ he was like a "nice" older brother who wouldn't pound on me like my own older brothers did! I also remember his interest in model rocketry (remember Estes Rockets?)and our ill-fated attempt to launch a frog in the payload of one rocket. Actually, thanks to Vince's engineering, the rocket did fine, but the payload didn't fare too well! We rode bikes to the park, played around in the new house construction near the Cascia's house and had great family dinners with plenty of meat â‚¬â€ and fruit for dessert! â‚¬â€ prepared by Aunt Delores.   I saw Vince through the years at various family functions and when I was a young single guy and moved to Huntington Beach, Vince and Terrill welcomed me to their house a few times (actually an apartment next to LAX where you had to stop talking when a plane flew over). Once they even took me on a hike in a nearby park.   We will miss you Vince, but your memories will always remain. Looking back, I think all the time I spent in that two-story house in Pekin with Vince and all those kids probably rubbed off on me. Dear Terrill, Krista, Jamie, Aunt Delores and all my Cascia cousins,      I am heartbroken for all of you and will miss Vince dearly. I will always remember my trip out west and staying at Vince's, getting to know Krista and Jamie, playing cards, touring LA and listening to Neil Young on the cd player with the family. Vince truly embodied what a family man should be. Every time I saw him at a reunion he talked with pride about his beautiful and talented wife and girls. He had the warmest smile, the biggest laugh and the best hugs, and he's passed that on to his daughters. I had the great pleasure of seeing Krista earlier this month and visiting with her. I thought to myself how proud her parents must be of both daughters, their adventurous spirit, intelligence and love of nature and family.       He leaves this world much too soon. There are no words that can be said, that will make this time any better.  All I can say is that, Vince is already missed.  I meet him when I first came to Hughes in 1982 and came to appreciate his knowledge and sense of humor.   He always seemed to know what to say to put a smile on a person’s face. Vince as our treasurer for many years made sure that we got the most out of every conference and trip MUN went on.       Personally I feel very fortunate that I had gotten to know Vince as more than a parent. He was one those that was easy to talk to, fun to be with and a man of dry witty humor. I have known Vince for almost 20 years now and I considered him to be one of the best people around and friend that I shall always cherish and remember. He was definitely one of a kind. The sadnees in my heart cannot be described. Vince was one of my most favorite people in the world. I feel blessed to have known him. I admired him and I respected him like no other. He was always a gentleman and a humble but knowing scholar. I had the pleasure of knowing him as my boss and as my friend too. I will miss seeing him at Richmond's on Fridays meeting for lunch once in awhile to chat and smile at the cheap entertainment provided by a bunch of engineers harassing one another, debating sports, and enjoying a frozen mug of Coors Light together. I thank the Lord for the opportunity I had six years ago when Vince became a part of my life. Over that period, we shared many laughs and wonderful experiences on a daily basis, that I will always treasure. I have two grown children the same ages as Krista and Jamie and I got to to see first hand how proud he was of both his daughters. I was able to share many laughs with poker nights, Lakers trials and celebration, bike rides and fantasy football ups and downs. I would like to offer my deepest  sypathies to Vince's wife, daughters and extended family, on his tragic and sudden death.       I have known Vince for the past 9 year and have worked with him on several programs at Boeing.  He was one of the coolest, nicest and easy going guy to work with.        He loved his family intensely and was really proud of his daughters.        I will cerainly miss a great friend with such a cool and collective personality. My heart goes out to Terill, Jamie, and Krista.  I am so sad,  as Vince and I go back to his first days at Hughes,  dynamics, softball,  and later sharing time as parents in soccer.  Vince was just the straightest, warmest, funniest person,  who made you feel comfortable,  no matter what.  I will miss him but his spirit will remain in my mind always as my role model of how to be a good human being.

Vince was a truly wonderful person.  His warm and friendly nature made him a great mentor and leader.  He was always willing to stop and explain things.  He will be deeply missed.

Vince was a remarkable engineer and a wonderful man.  As I talk to co-workers about his death, I find it absolutely amazing how many knew him and considered him to be a close friend.  It is not easy to be a close friend to 4000 people, but Vince did it.   Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Terrill, Krista, and Jaimie.  I'm so sorry for your loss. I know words cannot describe the joy, capture the memories, or articulate the way Vince made people around him feel. He was indead a very special man. I am honored to have the opportunity to learn from him and spend time with him.  That is a gift that rarely comes along in this life.  My deepest sympathies, visions of peace, and warm compassion go out to your family.

Dear Family of our friend and colleague Vince,      I cannot imagine your shock and grief.  May you be comforted amongst all other mourners, and may you find solace in our dear friend Vince's selfless acts of goodness and kindness, which has made our World better because of him.

I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Vince on two programs spanning from 1994 to 2009. There were two reasons everyone enjoyed working with Vince. First, you respected his technical expertise and knew he could solve any problem and second, he treated you like a close friend. He always made me feel comfortable, whether I was coming to ask him to do something for me or if I was asking him to explaing something to me again because I (still) didn't understand. I will greatly miss not being able to work with such a wonderful colleague but will try to practice the respected traits for which I will always remember Vince.

You will be missed Vince.  It was an honor and privilege to work with you.

I'm so sorry to hear the news.  Vince was one of my favorite mentors.  He helped shape the engineer I am today.  I have always strived to follow his example of kind, patient, intelligent, problem-solving leadership.  He will be greatly missed by many people.
