I worked with Ward at State Street and US Bank, and admired his spirit and determination.  He was friend with a sympathic ear, and a generous heart.  My thoughts are with his family and friends, and Ward will be in my prayers.

The images I have of Nick are connected to some happy memories of long summer days spent in Seaside Park, NJ. Ward conducted early Wednesday morning classes in corporate trust procedures. He taught me much about the corporate trust business. He took me to my first client business luncheon. In relating a story about his own life Nick really helped me with mine.  The details are fuzzy but the message was clear.  Lynn and Nick were visiting in Calabash, NC and a group of us were sharing dinner at Ruth and Ed Peters' house.  I had recently decided to re-enter college to finish my degree in psychology.  I wasn't really leaving a great career in anything to do it, but I was older than the average college student.  Nick was very positive and encouraging saying that a age 40 he himself had radically changed careers.  It took courage but it was worth it.  The message I took from that was don't let fear of failure or feelings of being to old make decisions for you.  You must live your life.  For that I will forever be grateful. I was deeply saddened by the news of Ward's death. I first worked with him when he was with Morgan and in charge of Washington Public Power Supply System (now ENW) Project 1 and I was at Seafirst Bank. Through the years as countless mergers and buyouts moved us around we kept in touch via an occasional phone call and the exchange of Christmas Cards. He was a good friend and will be sorely missed.

When Ward first started working in California he told me that as far as he was concerned one of his job duties was to make his boss look good.  I thought I had gone to heaven when I heard that.  Ward was always a pleasure to work with and I am glad that I had the opportunity to know him.  We all miss him very much.

Ward was a co-worker and a close friend. What always struck me about him was his sense of fairness and his compassion for people's feelings.  We were lunch buddies and would always have fun talking about sports and world events, but his family would always come up in the converstion. He loved them very much . We are all so sorry about Ward.  He was so wonderful to have here and was respected and loved by everyone.  People here were so excited to have Ward move from the New York office to the Los Angeles office because not only was he a great person, but also because he was so good at what he did.  He was so knowledgable and he was a very patient and wonderful teacher.  In the short time he was here, he really made a difference.  He was a really good and kind man and we will miss him very much.

My Mom was a bingo player. When she moved from Brooklyn to NJ, she needed to find a nice place to play bingo. Ward was kind in researching the area and came up with a wonderful daytime church bingo that she attended for many years until it closed down.       When Statestreet's Corporate Trust unit was purchased by US Bank, Ward took me aside to explain the facts of life at US Bank.       I will always be grateful for his assistance and his frienship.       My condolences to you his family.
