Wayne Anthony Sanger

Wayne Anthony Sanger, 77, of Manhattan Beach, CA, passed away of colon cancer on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in West Los Angeles. He was surrounded by his three children, Robert, Theresa and Tony Sanger.

Son of Thomas and Helen Sanger, Wayne was born November 20, 1941 in Holland, MI. He earned a Bachelor’s degree at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids and a Master’s degree at the University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. Navy in the USS Virgo (ammunition supply ship) from 1965 - 1969 during the Vietnam War. He married Maria Carmen Buenaventura of Manila, Philippines on February 14, 1971 in Ann Arbor, MI.

Wayne was a loving and devoted husband and father who passionately enjoyed Hawaii, sailing on Lake Macatawa, camping, swimming and playing tennis. He was a devout Catholic and an active parish member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Wayne is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kristen Sanger of Roseville, CA; Theresa Sanger of Shasta Lake, CA; son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Devie Sanger of Redondo Beach, CA. Wayne was a grandfather to Kai, Kobi and Naomi Sanger. He is also survived by his brothers, Stephen Sanger of Holland, MI, Thomas Sanger of East China, MI, Robert Sanger of Holland, MI and sister Mary Tracey, of Grandville, MI.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Maria.

Viewing/gathering will be held 9:30 - 11:30 am on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions- Rice Center at 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503 followed by the burial service at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery at 5835 Slauson Ave., Culver City, CA 90230.
