

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mrs. Lola Turik passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2003 after a stay at Poplar Ridge Extended Care in Trail BC. Lola graduated from the University of Victoria after growing up in Trail and returned to the Kootenay’s to teach. She was a warm, caring, loving and creative lady who taught part time while raising three sports oriented boys. Lola loved to travel and had many marvelous trips with her husband Frank. Lola gave of her time freely to the community and was President of the Cancer Society of Trail. She received many awards including in 1986: Outstanding Individual Achievement from the Trail Minor Hockey; 1988: Lola shared the Kiwanis Sportsman of the Year Award with her husband Frank. Lola will be sadly missed by friends and relatives. She will always be loved by her husband Frank of Trail; sons Frank Jr. and David of Sydney, Australia, Darren of Vancouver; daughters-in-law, Tania, Monica and Kimberly; grandchildren, Leigh, Jason and Mikaela. The family will receive visitors at Carberry’s Funeral Home, 1298 Pine Avenue on Friday, September 12, 2003 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. No flowers by request. Donations to the Cancer Society, 101-1506 Cedar Avenue, Trail, V1R 4C6 or the Alzheimer Society, 2920 Laburnum Drive, Trail V1R 1N2 would be appreciated by the family. Thank you to all the staff of Poplar Ridge for the kindness and support over the past year.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Frank Putsy TURIK passed away on march 23 2009 and joined his beautiful wife of 55 years, Lola.Frank had a wonderful life that was hampered in the last few years by dementia but Putsy remained friendly and full of song and humor to the end. Frank loved his family, his sports and his community. Putsy`s three boys, Frank Jr, David and Darren have raised their families in a way which made Putsy proud. Putsy loved his hockey and it was his passion, skill and determination which led to a successful career which lasted to his last oldtimers game which he played in his late 60`s.Frank played in two successive Memorial Cup finals, winning the 1945 final with Toronto St. Michaels. He also played for several years in the WIHL, toured Europe and was part of the 1961 World Champion Trail Smoke Eaters. Frank will be missed by his sons Frank jr, David, and Darren, daughter in laws Tania, Monica and Kim, grandchildren Leigh, Jason, Michaela, Danika and Brooklyn, siblings Mike, Nick and Mary and all those who knew him as a good man and one hell of a hockey player. Putsy loved his dogs Sparky,Candy, Missy, Frisky, Brandy and Buddy and walking them helped keep him in good shape. Frank also loved fishing and the trips with his brother Nick were very special and his local fishing mates Renato and Duke enjoyed time at Beaver creek and the Salmo river.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Special thanks to Susan Tyrrell Franks personal carer for many years.Special thanks to the staff at Rosewood village for their care over the last few years.Special thanks to sister mary for having Frank visit several times a year.Special thanks to Darren for his efforts over the years and for being with Putsy at the end.
