

Albert “Al” Riehl, age 80, of Traverse City passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Munson Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1932 to Harry and Eva (Kingdon) Riehl in Oaklawn, IL. Al attended Traverse City Central High School, graduating in 1949.
He married the late Joan VerSnyder on June 28, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Leelanau.
Al was employed by Cone Drive Textron for forty three years, thirty of those years as a supervisor, retiring in 1994.
Al was active as a bowler, golfer, fisherman, and an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed the annual deer hunting trip to his cabin on Drummond Island.
Al also served as a board member of Hammond Place Association for 16 years. He was active at Immaculate Conception food pantry and picked up bread from local grocery stores for the pantry. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1213.
Al enjoyed his recent friends and stay at Hawthorne Cottage.
Al is survived by 2 sons: Harry (Pam) of Traverse City and Ken (Anne) of Grand Rapids;3 grandchildren: Alan of Grand Rapids, Melissa of Traverse City, and Karen(Bryan) Langeland of Milwaukee; a great granddaughter Nora; one brother Harold of Grand Rapids.
Besides his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife Joan in 2008, and a son Todd in infancy.
Per Al’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will take place in the spring at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
