Alberta Lynch, 98 passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 17th in her own home. Alberta was born on July 5, 1919 in Buckley, Michigan. She was one of ten children born to Dewey and Lillian Lance.
Alberta married her Navy Hero, the love of her life, Donald F. Lynch on October 18, 1942. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Don passed away in 2009.

Alberta’s passion for teaching started at an early age and throughout her rewarding career as an educator she did her best to inspire and encourage each one of her students to always strive to be the best they could be. She will always be remembered as the kind of Teacher that made a Difference.
Alberta attended Buckley school where she graduated in 1938. She went on to earn her teaching certificate at County Normal. Her first teaching job was at the Selma #5, a rural country school north of Cadillac; where in a one room schoolhouse she taught 40 students grades Kindergarten through 8th. Earning a paycheck of $50.00 a month.
She went on to attend Central Michigan University earning her bachelor’s degree in Education. While teaching both Elementary and High School at Buckley Community Schools she continued to further her education, earning her master’s degree at CMU in 1955 by attending Summer School.
She joined the Traverse City School System where she found her niche teaching 5th grade at Oak Park School until she retired in 1977 after 34 years in education.
She was an active member with the Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Women Educators in the Grand Traverse Area.
Along with her love for education she was also an avid Sportswoman, enjoying hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing and just being present in the great outdoors.
Alberta’s kind heart and generous spirit will always be remembered by her friends and family. The walls in her home are covered with photographs, which reflect the love she had for her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.
Alberta is survived by her daughter Karen Holcomb of Traverse City; her grandsons Stephen (Stacee) Holcomb of Traverse City, Heath (Elissa) Holcomb of Traverse City, and nine great grandchildren, Skylar, Sterling, Stephen, Dalton, Jordyn, Morgan, Jacob, Coral and Hailey. Two sisters Mary Brown of Grand Rapids and Josie Cogan of Grandville, Michigan; many nieces and nephews and countless cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Lillian Lance of Buckley, her loving husband and best friend, Donald Lynch; brothers Albert Lance, Fred Lance, Donald Lance; sisters Patti Lance, Jennie Hansen, Leota Kiszlowski, Delores Michels Jewell.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday April 22, 2018 at Covell Funeral Home 232 E. State Street Traverse City. A funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 23 at Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City with Pastor Colleen Wierman officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
