Arnold Eldon Elzer, age 89 of Traverse City, died April 27, 2010 at Munson Hospice House. Arnold was born December 25, 1920 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Henry & Anna Elzer. On Nov. 23, 1946, in Traverse City, he married Betty J. Freeman, together they were fruit growers starting in 1962 on Old Mission Peninsula. Arnold was a proud US Coast Guard Veteran, serving in World War II, retiring from the military in 1962. He had a passion for farming and he loved his greenhouse. He also enjoyed fishing and bear hunting with John, Jack, Michael and Carl in Klotz Lake, Ontario. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church since its inception. Beloved Husband of the late Betty J. Elzer. Loving Father of John (Kathleen) Elzer, Betty Ann Elzer and Paula M. (Jack) Seguin. Proud Grandfather of ten and great grandfather of seven. Dear Brother of Marion Tylk, William Elzer, Jean Sawiki and Robert Elzer. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sons; Joseph, Carl and Jim and 3 brothers; Norman, Hank and Joseph. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Traverse City (912 South Garfield) with visitation one hour prior, Pastor Jim Nihiser, officiating. Family will receive friends Friday 4-8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of the Covell Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House.
