Beatrice Vera Ruhl

Beatrice Vera Ruhl, age 87 of Traverse City passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Villa at Traverse Point. Beatrice was born on March 4, 1931 in Saginaw, MI. to Eldon and Viva (Burleson) Smith. She and her husband moved up to the Traverse City area around 1986. He preceded her in death in 2015. Beatrice loved to travel, and made several trip to Maryland with her husband to see family. She was very active within her church (St. Patrick Catholic Church), where she helped with funeral luncheons, festivals, bazaars, and was active in the Womens group. She also loved flowers, and had three beautiful flower beds at her home which attracted quite a bit of attention because they were so lovely. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, snowmobiling, fishing, and also baking. She is survived by her daughter Diana Buchler, son Phil (Sue) Ruhl, 6 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons; Duane and Michael, daughter in law, Elizabeth Ruhl, granddaughter; Sarah Ruhl, brother; Delmar Smith, and sister; Ruth Coon. Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions appreciated to St. Patricks Catholic Church or the Alzheimers Association.

Our hearts go out to the Ruhl family. The history of our two families has always been intertwined. Phil and I were classmates through our whole public school careers. Beatrice was a bridesmaid in my parents' wedding and my mother was a bridesmaid in Beatrice's wedding.
