He was born in Detroit on Dec. 19, 1944 to Francis “Pete” and Josephine (Olsen) Herman. At a young age he moved to Suttons Bay and attended Suttons Bay School.
Chico married Dorothy Maslowski on Oct. 21, 1967 at Holy Rosary Church in Isadore, MI. He spent his life as a hi-low driver, working for numerous fruit companies. After retirement, he spent his time working at Red Lobster.
Chico was a long-time member of the FOE #383, and had a love of basketball, Detroit Lions football, and polka music. One of Chico’s favorite past times was going to Polka Tuesdays at Peshawbetown. Before passing, he was able to attend his first Detroit Lions game, accompanied by some of his family members. One of his greatest joys, however, was attending his grandchildrens various events.
Chico is survived by the love of his life of 50 years , Dorothy, daughters; Dawn Herman and Debbie (Kevin) Roush and his three pride and joy granddaughters; Justine Herman (Ryan Super), and Ashlee and Kyrsten Bottomley. Also surviving is one sister Betty Groesser of Elsworth and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Lacross, Maxine Steuer and Nancy Leabo..
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 12 noon from Covell Funeral Home, 232 E. State St. in Traverse City, Fr. Ken Anthony Citro officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 10:00 am until the time of mass.
Memorial contributions in Chico’s memory may be made to the family.
