Greg and I went to Northport Public School together from first grade through 12th grade (since he lived in town and I lived in the country we were in separate Kindergarten sessions.) He was the youngest member of our class, I was a whole five days older. He was also the tallest member of our class and I was the shortest.

Greg was smart, thoughtful and kind. We were lucky to have him as a member of our class and I'm sorry that he didn't get to enjoy more years of retirement after "moving home".

One of the highlights of my past year was reconnecting with Greg in monthly Zoom calls. Greg was a great friend in my years at Delta and was someone I always knew I could count on, both for his work ethic and his friendship. I will miss him.

I worked with Greg for 20 + years. He was a very smart and dedicated worker who never complained or had anything bad to say about anyone. Greg and I both grew up in Michigan. I went to the University of Michigan, and he to Michigan State University. During football and basketball seasons we would have lively discussions as to the relative greatness of our alma maters, always ending with jokes and praise for the other team. He was just a nice guy, fun to be with and will be greatly missed.

When I think about my cousin Greg, those memories go way back, since our mothers gave birth to us the very same year. It's no exaggeration to say that Greg was always one of the "good guys" -- even as a child. At least that's what I always thought until my mother, Erma Bussey, shared a story about an incident that happened when she & my Aunt Geneva were walking in downtown Northport with Greg and me, their young children, in tow. Somehow, the two of us managed to get into trouble when we ran off to go exploring on our own. Parts of the story included snippets about us turning on a not-so-public water faucet, making a kid-loving mess, embarrassing our mothers, and getting a public scolding. Despite being involved in that mischievous episode (I was probably to blame), Greg always had my respect, not only as a childhood buddy, but also as an adult with a special ability to connect with people and be genuinely interested in their lives. A true gentleman with both natural charm and dignity, Greg gave us a master class on how to handle adversity with courage and grace when health challenges began to dominate his life in recent years. I admired him so much. My heartfelt sympathy to Beth, Matt, and each of Greg's brothers.

Beth and Matt,
We are so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. He will certainly be missed by all the Dechow cousins. Dave can tell many stories of times spent with Greg when they were kids and traveled up north to visit. Those boys were blessed to have such great cousins. We will all miss him.

Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Beth and Family,

Betty and I were so saddened to hear about the passing of Greg and our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you navigate this difficult time.

Greg was a good friend and work colleague of mine for many years at Delta Faucet. I know how much Greg looked forward to his retirement years and I am glad you got to share that time with him. Life is never long enough. He will be missed.

Beth and Matt,

Thinking of you guys for your heartbreaking loss.

Greg was a great friend that I will miss terribly.

We had a lot of great times (and a lot of lunches) during our years at Delta. I'll never forget that.

Find comfort in family and friends.

I've had a lot of luck in my life. Part of that is having friends like Greg that I've looked up to and shared life with.

If you need anything......please reach out...anytime.

Worked with Greg at Delta Faucet for 30+ years. Had a lot of good times together when we were young. Luckily had a couple of zoom calls with Greg earlier this year. He will be missed.

I am so saddened to learn of Greg's death. I have so many memories of our 2 families during the 1960' s in Northport....at Northport Public school, Trinity Church and around the town. The Dechow boys' and my brother and my parents were close friends for years. One of my favorite memories is that our Moms were the youth choir directors. They decided that there should be a quartet of children singing as well, so they chose 4 of the youth choir members.....their own kids.

Greg was such a nice, nice gentleman. I believe his spirit is flying free now.....and may his family find peace.
