Hollis "Brownie" Brown

Brownie was born on February 22, 1927 in Chief, Michigan, the son of Leon and Eva (Hubbell) Brown. On March 6, 1948, Brownie was wed to Marilyn (Rohdy) Brown. Together, they raised two children, Sandra and Ronald.

Brownie was a lifetime member of VFW Cherryland Post 2780 and a member of Cherryland Beagle Club. He was enlisted in the United States Navy and retired from TC Ironworks after 33 years of service. Brownie enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and vacationing in Florida. In his younger years, Brownie enjoyed playing baseball and hockey.

Brownie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn Brown; children, Sandra (Dan) Scott and Ronald Brown; 6 grandchildren, Dan, Paul (Jody), and Ryan Scott, Bill (Sara) and TJ (Andria) Brown, and Holly Jo (Chris) Owen; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law; and his fishing buddy, Keith. Brownie is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Wesley and Dale Brown and Esther Coates.

Family will greet friends today, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
