She was born on August 28, 1937 at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan, to Leon and Edith (Belanger) Couturier. As a small child, Jackie could be seen hauling around chickens, cats or dogs. She felt like they were her best friends. As she grew older she loved her summers for picking berries and mushrooms and just roaming the hills on their 40 acre farm. Winters were great for sledding as she lived in a home that was below a gigantic hill. They would start from the top on a sled and see if they could make it to the highway.
In 1954, Jackie married her first husband Peter Winowiecki, who preceded her in death. They moved to Peter's family 1,000 acre farm which was very different with cows, horses, chickens, and pigs. Jackie soon learned how to milk a cow. It was scary to her at first, but she quickly realized that the cows were pretty gentle. Jackie and Peter had three children, Peter (deceased), Leon and Betty.
In 1988, Jackie married her second husband, William Tooley, who also preceded her in death. They lived in Elberta near Lake Michigan. Jackie and Bill enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, working in the yard and riding Bill's motorcycle.
After Bill's death, Jackie moved back to Traverse City to be close to her family. She worked at several long-term care facilities and enjoyed working with the elderly. She retired from Goodwill Industries. Jackie enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards and spending time with her family at Log Lake.
She is survived by her children Leon Winowiecki and Betty (Tim) Gloshen, her grandchildren Nicholas Swartout (Jessica Maison) and Ciara (Zach) Wendels, great-grandchildren Joshua Swartout and her siblings Mary Bugai, Audrey Bugai, Carol (Bill) Kahle, Carl (Anna) Couturier, Edith (Ben) Zimmerman, Pat Otto, Mike (Vaan) Couturier and numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Edith, son Peter and her siblings Robert Couturier, Gerry, Judy Howard, Orpha Taylor and Thelma Schaub.
Jackie will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend. She will be greatly missed.
