Jackson Sidney "Jack" Hanna, age 96, of Williamsburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Willow Cottages in Traverse City. He was born Dec. 15, 1920 in Acme Township to Alfred Davy and Lily Elizabeth (Zeigler) Hanna. He was the fourth of eight children.
Jack's father was a farmer who became a commercial fisherman and fish peddler. After Jack's father suffered a stroke, Jack dropped out of school in his eighth grade year to help care for his family. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and saw service in Japan. Jack's career consisted of commercial fishing, cherry farming, inspector for Parsons, and Kindle Furniture. He attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years. Jack was an accomplished writer and he currently has a book available on Amazon.
Jack married Dorothy Lorraine Ninnis on Sept. 24, 1942. Together they had six children. Later Jack would marry the late Margarete Hormuth.
Jack is survived by four children, Stephen (Nancy) Hanna, of Williamsburg, Julia Hanna, Becki (Dennis) Bigelow, and Jackie Merritt, all of Traverse City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; and sons, Richard Joseph and Timothy Scott.
According to Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
