Born July 26, 1929, in Cedar, he was the son of Paul and Pearl (Darga) Kishefsky. On July 21, 1962, at St. Mary’s Church Lake Leelanau he married Joanne Couturier, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Kishefsky was a retired Public Accountant. He graduated from St. Francis High School, St. Joseph’s Seminary, Grand Rapids, and received an associate’s degree in Philosophy from the Seminaire de Philosophie, Montreal. He also attended St. John’s Seminary, Plymouth, and Aquinas College, Grand Rapids.
As a lifetime member of St. Francis, he was a Eucharistic Minister, lector, choir member, and member of the Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Post #1213. He enjoyed playing bingo, and the outdoors, especially riding his mountain bike year round. He was devoted to his children and grandchildren, many friends, and was enthusiastic about volunteer work in the community.
Surviving are his children; Anne Barraw, Cathy Eckman, Julia Kishefsky; and Joseph (Tai). Also surviving are three sisters; Donna Lang, Theresa Chubbuck, and Rosemary Vanderperren; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers; Gregory, and Paul, one sister; Jeanie Knudsen; and a granddaughter, Cierra Marie.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., Fr. Kenneth Stachnik officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
