OBITUARY

John David Edick

January 28, 1930December 1, 2019

Born on January 28, 1930 in Escanaba, MI and died December 1, 2019 in Seattle, WA, John joins his beloved wife Ruth, parents Edward and Allene Edick, sister Mary and stillborn twin brother David in passing. John grew up in Escanaba, on the banks of Lake Michigan, camping, fishing and sailing; a boy’s life. He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he met his wife Ruth. Their early years of marriage were spent travelling while John served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He continued his service in the Naval Reserves until 1967 as he and Ruth settled in Northern Ohio to raise their family. John worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Reliance Electric for 40 years while he and Ruth raised four children in Wickliffe, Ohio. He was a skilled engineer and travelled frequently for the company when his diagnostic skills were needed to solve a problem. He and Ruth were able to travel the U.S. with their children, followed by retirement travel together all over the world until 2012. Dad’s most memorable trip with Ruth was to Antarctica in 2001. After retirement Ruth & Jack built their dream home in Elk Rapids, MI complete with a dedicated workshop where John could pursue his passion for woodworking. His children, grandchildren, relatives and church-fellows all benefited from his skill. Our homes are filled with furniture made with the love of his capable hands. John is survived by his children Cliff, Kathy (Tom), David (Vicky), Lynne (Patrick); grandchildren Allison (Drew), Jennifer (Rick), Paige, Delos, Connor; and great-grandchildren Ricky and Marion. Services will be held in Elk Rapids, MI in spring of 2020 with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids, followed by a Celebration Service at Kewadin United Methodist Church.

He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again. William Shakespeare
