Lisa Linda Martinek, age 48, of Traverse City passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 surrounded by people she loved and that loved her at Munson Medical Center. Lisa was born December 4, 1965 in Montana to Julius and Norma (Collie) Martinek. Her father was superintendent of Yellowstone National park. She moved with her family to Michigan when her father was assigned to open Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Lisa had a very interesting childhood. No one ever tired of hearing Lisa recount her wonderful memories of growing up in such an outstanding environment.
While Lisa lived elsewhere at times, most notably Idaho, she always considered Northern Michigan the place she belonged, especially Leelanau County, Which in her opinion was the greatest place to be.
Lisa had an excellent sense of style and taste. When asked what kind of music she liked, her answer was; “the good kind”. Her music collection showed it. It didn’t matter if it was classical or rock ‘n roll, it was always good.
Lisa was an avid reader since childhood. She attended college for a time, but if you asked where she received her education, her reply would be; “I’m still receiving it”. Challenging Lisa to a round of trivial pursuit would’ve been a mistake!
Preceding her in death are her parents, of whom she was very proud and blessed to have in her life.
Lisa is survived by a brother Steve Martinek of Frankfort of whom she often spoke fondly of. Extended family of the heart: Dan (Melissa) Milesi, Richard DeWitt, Anna Fuller, Kathy Henry, and John (Nicole) Powell. All of whom feel fortunate to have had the privilege of sharing Lisa’s rich and interesting life. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 4-6pm at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
