Maretta Marie Harig

Maretta Marie Harig passed away peacefully on December 25, 2020, at Munson Medical Center after a short illness. She was 92 years old. Maretta was born September 10, 1928 to Grace (Gore) Fouch and Clifford C. Fouch. She was born and lived in Traverse City her entire life. Her early years were spent on her parents cherry farm on Old Mission Peninsula. She married Leon M. Harig on February 10, 1951. Together they raised two daughters. Maretta stayed home raising their daughters until they were in high school. She then went to work at the Cherry County Playhouse, one of Michigan's first professional theaters, when it was first opened in the 60s. Later, she worked at the Michigan Employment Security Commission and Bell Michigan. When her husband retired in 1990, they began spending winters on Marco Island, Florida. Family was always important to Maretta; her sister and brother lived within miles of her home and wintered in Florida in the same neighborhood. Maretta was a warm weather fan, spending summers at the beach with her daughters and their families and winters in Florida. Maretta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Virginia Corrado, brother in law, Tim Corrado, brother, Howard Fouch, and sister in law, Ann Fouch. She is survived by her daughters; Linda (James) Borowicz and Cynthia (Kevin) McCormick, 4 grandchildren; Hilary (Dan) Quagliana, Jessica Borowicz, Corey Moura and Melissa (Moura) Eman, and two great grandchildren; Andrew and Thomas Quagliana. Maretta was a lifelong member of Old Mission United Methodist Church and memorial contributions can be sent there at 14432 Peninsula Dr., Traverse City, MI, 49686. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home. Services will be held in the Spring.
