Marion James "Jim" Loomis, 85, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at home. An avid storyteller who loved entertaining family and friends with jokes and tall tales, Jim's sense of humor will be sorely missed by all.
Outgoing and funny, Jim made friends everywhere he went, whether it was on the road during his years as a trucker driver, visiting antique and classic car shows, or running the Loomis Campground outside of Lake Ann with his family. A teamster and frequent patron of local VFW and Eagles halls, Jim was a proud Korean War veteran.
While Jim battled illness over the last two years he was lucky enough to be cared for by his daughter-in-law Denise (Schug) Loomis at his lake home where he loved welcoming friends and family while enjoying the picturesque scenery and playing with his dog Lucy.
Jim is predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia "Ginny" Loomis (Pawloski), son Christopher, brothers Alvin and Joel. He is survived by four children and their spouses- Jim (Lynn) Loomis, Deb (Dennis ) Gauthier, Steve (Denise) Loomis, and Nancy (Jeff) Hoyt; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren ; sister Maxine Courtad; and former wife Ellie.
Visitation will be held at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Greenbriar Cemetery on Reynolds Road near the intersection of Cedar Run.
