

Neil was born July 16, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Marguerite (Jury) Sheridan. He graduated from Detroit Northern High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Wayne State University in Detroit and later his master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. In 1951, he married the former Sara Mary Anderson of Traverse City, Michigan after meeting while both of them were working during the summer at the Omena Inn, a northern Michigan resort.
Neil’s lifelong passion was music, which he was able to turn into a career and a pastime. Neil started playing professionally when he was a boy, participating in a small band that played locally in Detroit at weddings and other events. He turned his passion into a career when he started teaching music and band first at schools in Manistee and Newaygo and finishing in the Cadillac public school system where he spent most of his career, retiring and remaining in Cadillac until 2012 when he moved to Traverse City. He also enjoyed reading, working in the yard and was an avid handyman.
Neil is survived by his son, Patrick Sheridan his wife Corine of Annapolis, MD, and three daughters, Maureen Milarch and her husband Jeff of Copemish, MI, Lisa Knapp of Waters, MI and Jill Borre and her husband Bill of Lake Leelanau, MI; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Mary Sheridan (Anderson) in 1998.
