Robert Mark Porter, age 44, lost his battle with leukemia and went to be with our Lord on Tuesday February 12th. Robert was born May 7th, 1973 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He grew up in Buckley, MI and was a graduate of Buckley Community School. Rob attended Western Michigan University after high school where he was part of a comedy troupe. He played semi-pro football for the Kalamazoo Tornados in 1998 where they defeated the Topeka Knights in the AFA’s National Championship Semi-Professional Super Bowl XLX. Robert traveled the country in search of material for his ultimate goal of becoming a comedian. He lived in southern Michigan and Florida, Vale, Colorado, and as far away as Los Angeles, California. While in Vale he worked for a ski resort where he learned to snowboard and was known at Christmas time to snowboard down the mountain in his Santa suit. Besides his love of snowboarding, Robert was an avid sports fan and sports memorabilia collector. The University of Michigan Wolverines was his favorite team. He landed a part as a cartoon character in a pilot show called “Joey Cheetah”. He loved to entertain and make people laugh. He was part of the Traverse City Underground Comedy and performed for the Falling Down Stairs Productions. Rob was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia on Friday April 13, 2012. The leukemia mutated into acute leukemia in August of 2016. During this period he visited and was a part of several benefits for the awareness of lymphoma and leukemia as well as other various cancer types. He was at his best when he was performing on stage in front of a crowd. There wasn’t a life he met that he didn’t touch or change their heart. Robert was preceded in death by his younger brother Peter Porter. He is survived by his son Trevor Levi, his mother Linda (Ray) and Father Randall Porter, sister Katie Teller, brothers Seth, Jordan, Clayton, and Sam Porter, along with several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 17th at 10am in Buckley, MI at the Buckley Tabernacle T2 building. Family visitation will be held from 9am to 10am and then again immediately following the service. Please bring your memories and stories of Robert to share during this time.
