Sheila Joy Saier, 71, of Thompsonville, passed away Friday, April 24th, 2020, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was born July 11th, 1948, in Buckley, the daughter of Theodore and Charlotte (Canute) Ricket. Sheila worked at Crystal Mountain Resort and Karlin Deli for over 35 years. She enjoyed spending time with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sheila also loved dogs, especially her two babies, Kaiser and Flash. Sheila was a very good cook and baker. Her "cool-cheese pie" was a local favorite for many years at the small deli where she worked. Sheila donated her time and energy to prepare and serve meals to those in need at her United Methodist Church in Traverse City. She enjoyed painting crafts and crocheting blankets in her spare time. She is survived by her ex-husband, E. John Saier, of Traverse City; three sons, John Jay (Angela) Saier, of Buckley, Joshua Jay (Tawnya) Saier, of Saratoga WY, and Jeremiah Jay (Kristin), of Perry, MI; three brothers, Donald, Greg and Joe Ricket; a sister, Donna (Ricket) Sherman; five grandchildren, Richard Scott, Nikita Kay, John Ray, Jenna Rae and Easton Wyatt; four great-grandchildren, Ella Rose, Carson Bradley, James Owen and Blake Monroe. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Charlotte (Canute) Ricket; mother-in-law, Mildred Saier; sister, Elnore Corwin; a son, Raymond Jay; and grandson, Easton Jacob. The family has chosen to postpone a funeral service until later this summer or fall. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Sheila's name may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.

Aunt Sheila was always very welcoming and generous with the sharing of her home and her good food that she made, made me feel welcome in the family so many years ago, she will be missed.

She and I were always together when I was younger. I so wanted a swing set when I was a young girl. I remember her bringing one over and at the time her fiance John putting it together. She was always watching out for me. Love you always. Rest high on that mountain sis.

Aunt Sheila was a wonderful person. We would go to her house and fish, and snowmobile. Never caught anything.

Sheila was a staple of my youth, she was a strong supporter of all BCHS sports especially the ones her sons participated in. She gave great hugs and always made you feel welcome in her home. May you Rest In Peace, my heart and thoughts go out to the boys!
