Shirley Mae Blackmer, age 93 of Traverse City passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Munson Medical Center. Shirley was born on June 1, 1925 in Detroit, MI. to William and Eva (Wilson) Kase. She attended and graduated from St. Leo’s in Detroit, MI, 1943. On October 9, 1948 in Detroit, MI. she married Robert F. Blackmer, who preceeded her in death in 1981. Shirley was employed for a number of years with Detwiler Pharmacy, and also worked for E&J Supply. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and loved the Red Wings, and Detroit Tigers. She was always the “life of the party”. She is survived by her children; Lynne (Neil) Simpson, Cheryl Zech, Robert (Lori) Blackmer, Francine (Randy) Kamps, Diane (Brian) Donaldson, Frank (Janie) Blackmer, Gregg (Judi) Blackmer, and Mary Lathers (Robert Underhill). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister June Oetzel, parents; Eva & William Kase, Son in law; Timothy Zech, and Grandson; Benjamin Zech. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City and at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, Nov. 8th from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., Fr. Anthony Citro officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord. Lynne and Family,
I am so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. I remember her well from our many visits to Michigan. She always had a smile and something funny to say. She was a very likable person. Our sincere condolences to the entire family. I know in recent years, her health has been failing. May she rest in peace.
