Terrence George Maxwell, 84, of Elk Rapids, formerly Fenton Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2015 in the arms of his loving wife, Mary Jean, of 61 years. Their devoted partnership was a love affair to be admired by all of those who were lucky to be a part of their lives. His new journey begins in heaven as he smiles lovingly at all he loved and is at peace now. Terry was born on January 20, 1931 in Flint, the son of George and Catherine Maxwell. He graduated from Flint Central and received a Bachelor from Michigan State University. Terry went on to earn his Masters and Specialists in Arts from Eastern Michigan University. He accomplished this all while raising 5 children, and that is after serving in the United States Army.
Terry’s many years of community service extended beyond any borders. His passion for life and helping others was like no other. He worked in the Youth Projects Department, local community schools for many years, and was a proud member of the Grand Blanc Board of Education. He also was a visiting lecturer at the University of Michigan in Flint, became the Director of Mott Crime and Delinquency Division then retiring to pursue business ventures.
In later years returning to his unending passion to help kids, he dedicated years working as a cross county coach for Powers Catholic High School as he was an avid runner and enjoyed running numerous marathons. Throughout these years, his thirst for higher education continued and he put it to work by becoming a contributing writer for Tri-County Times, the Range in Arizona and columnist for Senior Times just to name a few.
Terry touched so many lives and will be missed. He is survived his wife, Mary Jean; children, Terry 2nd. of Wilcox, Arizona, Mike (Bridget) of Grand Blanc, Bridget ( Dan) of Elk Rapids, Maureen (John) of Bay City, and Tony (Sherrie) of Fenton.
