

She was born 80 years ago, January 28, 1933, in Hannah, Michigan, to John M. and Cleota M. (Weber) Steinebach.
In 1950, she married James Largent at St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Church. The Largents made their home in Traverse City and marked a 56-year marriage that resulted in five children.
Thelma was active in her community and her church. She loved the time spent with her many friends at Father Fred’s, where she was a regular volunteer. Thelma worked at Potter’s Bakery for several years, then at TruFit Trouser for 25 years where she ultimately retired as a seamstress.
Known for her sense of humor, kindness and wit, she regularly entertained family and friends at holiday celebrations and special occasions. “Grandma made everyone feel at home,” noted a grandchild, “and could always find a reason to have a party.”
Thelma also loved to be outdoors. Camping, fishing, outdoor craft and morel hunting were favorite activities. Making bird houses, painting in oils, reading and sewing were other past- times. She especially enjoyed golf, an activity she and Jim did together for many years.
A long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church, she volunteered regularly on the church’s funeral luncheon committee.
Thelma is survived by 5 children: Bernard Largent of Perry, Debra (Dale) Colaianni of Alden, Daniel (Michele) Largent of Traverse City, Steven (Sharon) Largent of Traverse City, and Cynthia (Michael) Green of Kingsley; 9 Grandchildren: Eric, Lisa, Jacqui, Andrew, Amber, Shane, Becky, Rachel, and Josh; 3 great grandchildren: Katelynn, Caidance, and Ben; siblings: Mary Ann (Henry) Bartz and Dan (Lynn) Steinebach; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Don Pelky, husband James, and brother Gerald Steinebach.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City with a rosary to be held at 7:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Stachnik officiating.
Memorial contributions in Thelma’s name may be directed to mass intentions, the Father Fred Foundation, or St. Francis Food Pantry.
