Born in San José de las Lajas, Cuba, Adela courageously left the country she loved to come to the United States in search of greater opportunities and a brighter future for her family. Through determination, perseverance, and an unwavering work ethic, she built a life defined by love, sacrifice, resilience, and service to others. She dedicated many years of her career to AT&T, where she was known for her commitment, dependability, and strong work ethic.
Adela was deeply grateful for the opportunities she found in the United States and often reminded her family, “Si no triunfas en Estados Unidos, es porque no quieres. Este es el país de las oportunidades.” She believed those words because she had lived them. While she never forgot the country where she was born, she embraced every opportunity to build a beautiful life for the people she loved.
If there was one phrase that perfectly described Adela, it was this: She never met a stranger. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome, and wherever she went, she quickly made lifelong friends. Her infectious sense of humor, vibrant personality, and joyful spirit could light up any room. She loved to laugh, loved making others laugh, and was often the heart of every gathering.
Her home was always open. Whether hosting family gatherings, welcoming friends for bingo, sharing a home-cooked meal, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Adela found her greatest joy in bringing people together. She believed the best memories were made around a table filled with family, friends, laughter, and love. No one ever left her home hungry, and everyone left feeling cared for.
Her generosity knew no bounds. If someone needed help finding a job, she worked tirelessly to connect them with an opportunity. If a family was in need of clothing or support, she found a way to help. She gave freely of her time, her resources, and her heart, never expecting anything in return. Helping others wasn’t simply something she did - it was who she was.
Adela embraced life to the fullest. She loved to travel, treasured every adventure, and never missed an opportunity to capture life’s special moments with a photograph. The countless memories she created and the photographs she leaves behind will forever remind her family and friends of a life beautifully lived.
Above all, Adela’s greatest love was her family. She devoted her life to creating opportunities and a brighter future for those she loved, especially her beloved son, for whom she made countless sacrifices. Her kindness, resilience, generosity, and unwavering love touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Adela is survived by her beloved son, Jose Emilio Martinez; her cherished granddaughter, Jessica Marie Martinez; her beloved brother, Alfredo Garcia; her granddaughter, Emily Martinez; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Adela’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her compassion, generosity, laughter, and unconditional love.
