First and foremost Barbara was devoted to her family as a proud and loving mother and Grandmommy. She cheered through countless recitals, concerts, sporting events, and graduations for her children and grandchildren. She loved family trips in the mini motor home, whether it was driving the family around the southeast or across the country. She was a tireless caregiver for her husband Jimmy through a prolonged battle with multiple sclerosis and through her positive determination enabled Jimmy to stay active with family and community despite the illness. She gave the same care to her second husband James through his battle with cancer. Her door was always open and her house became a second home to extended family and friends who she counted as family.
Barbara was an enthusiastic supporter of the Tucker community throughout her life where she is known for her constant smile, boundless energy, giving spirit and unparalleled cake baking skills. She was a life-long member of Tucker First United Methodist Church, holding a variety of offices in the United Methodist Women and her beloved COMET class. She enjoyed serving friends old and new as a teller at C&S Bank, then NationsBank of Tucker; but, she enjoyed her retirement even more. Among her numerous community activities, she was a Girl Scout leader, an officer in Tucker Junior Women’s Club and on Tucker High School band and chorus boosters. She was always ready for adventure and in recent years she enjoyed outings with the Red Hat Society, traveled near and far with First Baptist Tucker NTO’s, planned reunions for the THS Class of 1958, and arranged countless gatherings of life long Tucker friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Eunice and Bernace Cain, her brother Michael Cain, her husband Jimmy Sexton, and her husband James Mason. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Selina and Joe Kilpatrick (Tucker, GA), Melissa and Ben Valena (Atlanta, GA), DeeAnne Jackson (Birmingham, AL) and Whitney Mason (Seattle, WA), as well as her grandchildren Katie and Jeff Pansini, Holly, Joey, and Annie Kilpatrick, Kelly and Emma Jackson, Christina and Richard Fritz, and Daniel and Evan Valena, and her longtime companion John Kinsey III.
