Carolyn was born September 3, 1927 in Atlanta and grew up in the Kirkwood area of east Atlanta – a historic streetcar suburb. She graduated from Girls High and attended Kirkwood Methodist Church with her parents, Jack and Gussie Young and older sister, Doris.
Carolyn met the love of her life in the 1940’s. Bill had served in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII. One of his sisters was friends with Carolyn and decided to introduce them. Their first date was a rainy Georgia Tech football game. They were married at Brookhaven Methodist Church on June 17, 1949 and moved to Brookhaven.
Bill and Carolyn worked together to build a successful dry-cleaning business called Bill McDaniel’s Cleaners with locations at Embry Hills and Shallowford Road area. They raised three children: Gail, Connie and Billy.
In 1963, the family moved to Tucker where they joined Tucker First Methodist Church. They were active members of the C.O.M.E.T. Sunday School Class (Count On Me Every Time). Carolyn sang soprano in the Chancel Choir. When they retired, they both joined the Church Pioneer Bell Choir and traveled to senior living communities where Carolyn played the bells and Bill played the harmonica.
The entire family enjoyed boating and skiing. In 1971 they purchased a cabin at Jackson Lake and created wonderful memories over the years for the children, the grandchildren, great grandchildren and other friends and families. Everyone was welcome at the lake.
In 1981, Bill said he wanted to purchase a motorcycle. Carolyn promptly told him to buy two helmets! She was not going to stay at home while he went riding.
In December 2018, she moved to Linwood Estates Senior Living and enjoyed making new friends of residents and staff. She was well known by her smile and friendliness! And always had two cookies after every meal!!
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Bill (2003), great granddaughter, Tiffany Richter (2013) and her sister, Doris White (2020). She has six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
