Claude was the oldest of eight children.

When Claude was a boy, he would make extra money by selling gardenia flowers. He would create corsages for the Georgia Tech games.

Claude was a great high school sports star. He would often appear in the newspaper. He played baseball, football, and basketball. However, his greatest love was baseball.

After high school he served honorably in the United States Army. During his time in the army, he found time to coach a boys little league baseball team.

Claude continued to play baseball after he married Ann. Every weekend, his team would meet up at Piedmont Park to play baseball on the weekends. Claude and Ann financed the team they named the Saints.

They both had a great love for sports. Throughout their years of marriage, the routine every night was to watch the Braves game together. During football season, they would watch the Falcons, the Georgia Bulldogs, and Georgia Tech.

Claude worked as a salesman for the same paint company for 52 years. He retired when he was 75 years old. He had a great work ethic and hardly missed a day of work. The longest he was out of work was a little more than a week. He had emergency heart surgery. They had to do five bypasses on his heart. Claude worked hard at getting back to work and his normal life. He didn’t like sitting around on the couch all day. He needed to be doing something.

Claude and Ann loved to do many things. Early in their marriage they had a boat named “Annabelle”. Almost every weekend they would drive to Florida just so they can go fishing in the Gulf of the Florida panhandle. Back then there were no limits for how many fish you could catch and bring in. While Ann liked to sit in the sun, Claude spent the day pulling in Spanish mackerel after Spanish mackerel.

Something else Claude absolutely adored, was coaching his son, Jeff, and his daughter Sonia. Jeff played baseball and football. Sonia played softball.

Claude was a very good coach and was proud of how much Jeff and Sonia learned about loving the sports they played.

Claude loved to have a clean home. He took on the responsibility of vacuuming, washing dishes, dusting, and ironing. The other thing he absolutely loved to do at Christmas time was baking.

Some of the treats he made every single year from scratch were chocolate pound cake, chocolate fudge, peanut brittle, potato candy, and pecan pie.

After Claude retired, some of the hobbies he liked was drawing, doodling, and crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed watching the birds feed out of the birdfeeders from the living room window.
