Delores J. Bayne, affectionately known as Cakes by her hubby, was born on October 2, 1941 in Cambridge Massachusetts to Herbert and Barbara Lee. She was the 4th of 5 children. She was predeceased by her 3 brothers Herbert, Richard, Irving and her sister June.
She and Dennis started dating in the fall of 1958 and were joined in Holy Matrimony on Sept. 24, 1960 at her parents’ home. God Blessed them with 2 sons, Dennis Michael and Darryl Mark. She worked throughout her married life and was a true help meet. One of her early jobs was a classic “I Love Lucy” episode. She worked for Fanny Farmers Candies putting candy in boxes as they came down the factory line. Subsequently she worked for Sears in Atlanta GA, Brookfield WI, and Bridgeport CT. When the Bridgeport store closed, she found her passion – working with children at Magic Kingdom Daycare as a daycare teacher. Another long term love she had was music. She danced and sang with her husband’s band for many years. Another trait that she always insisted on, was that nobody was leaving the house looking tacky – it may not be new, but it would be clean and pressed!!
As finances improved, at least in her mind… YUP- things would be new!
God merged her two passions together at Rehoboth Church of God in Christ in Bridgeport, CT where she formed and led the children’s choir for many years. Simultaneously, she grew spiritually and advanced to become a licensed Evangelist and eventually a member of the Mother’s Board.
She was a devoted wife for 64 years; a loving caring mother of her 2 sons; and loved her daughter in laws Sheila, Rhonda and Carol; her 10 grandchildren David, Nicole, Stephanie, Carissa, Christina, Danielle, Jordan, Julia, Brandon, and Olivia; her 11 Great grandchildren Francine, Joseph, Penelope, Lucy, Piper, Julian, Gideon, Aiden, Selah, Eden, Emilia, and her sister in laws Donna Bayne and Carrie Lee. Additionally, she loved a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
We would also like to acknowledge our church family, the members of Rehoboth Church of God in Christ for the love and affection shown to us over the last 40 years - especially during this trying time. Also, a special thanks to all of the family and friends, both far and near, who showed love and support throughout this difficult process.
Her physical presence will surely be missed, but her beautiful, kind and loving spirit will live in our hearts forever.
