1931 - 2022
Doris Jean Stowe (Blackwell), age 90, passed away peacefully at her home of 55 years in Doraville, Georgia on June 25, 2022.
She was born to Lula Mae and UT Blackwell in King’s Mountain, North Carolina on August 27, 1931.
Jean graduated from Cramerton High School in Cramerton, NC and married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas Stowe, in 1949. Upon moving to Doraville, GA in 1967, she worked as an administrative assistant for Northern Telecom and American Can, among other companies.
Jean enjoyed quilting, sewing, jewelry making, singing in the church choir, taking trips with friends, and cooking for her family. She was an active member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church since joining in 1967.
She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Thomas Stowe, daughter Tommie Bourland (Brian Wheeler) of Lawrenceville, GA, sons Marc Stowe of Nashville, TN and Joey Stowe (Deidre Shellenberger) of Atlanta, GA, grandsons Jason Bourland (Lindsey) of Seattle, WA and Paul Bourland of Bethlehem, GA, granddaughter Vanessa Shellenberger of East Point, GA, and sister Betty Jenkins of Cramerton, NC, sister-in-law, Mary Dellinger and nephew, David Dellinger of Cramerton, NC.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Jean’s life will be held on Thursday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Embry Hills UMC (3304 Henderson Mill Rd.) with a reception to follow.
