

Dorothy (Dot) Beck Secrest, 91, Of Tucker, GA, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014. She was born in Rowan County, NC, May 12, 1923, to the late John Thomas and Georgia Moore Beck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Seldon Rone Secrest, Jr. in 1999. She was a graduate of Spencer High School in Spencer, N. C. and married in 1944. She was a resident of Tucker since 1966 and was a member of Tucker First United Methodist Church.
Dorothy is survived by three sons, John Ronald Secrest (Mary Beth) of Marietta, GA, Steven Rone Secrest of McDonough, GA, and Douglas Alan Secrest (Janet) of Hixson, TN, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Helen Miller, Irene Waller, Ruth Rickard, Ida Lee Arey, and Laura Barrier, and many nieces and nephews. Dot was a remarkable woman with many interests such as poetry and music and was skilled in several crafts. She was much beloved by all who knew her; she was especially devoted to her grandchildren. Dorothy was Dekalb County Volunteer of the year in 1994 for her work with disabled children at the Dekalb YWCA. She was also recognized by the MLK Center in 1994 for her volunteerism.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 12 noon, Floral Hills Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA, with burial to immediate follow in cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Tucker First United Methodist Church, 5095 LaVista Road, Tucker, GA 30084.
