

Doyle Myers, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, and member of the “greatest generation” passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Sunrise Senior Living in Johns Creek, Georgia. He was the 4th of eight children born to James Alexander Myers and Ophia Dyche Myers on December 17, 1921 in Canton, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents, cherished wife of 64 years, Betty Moore Myers, and siblings, Grace Hogue, Ruth Howard, and James Myers. Surviving family members include daughters Becky Clements (Charles), Molly King (Rick), Cathy Brooks (Eddie); grandchildren Caye Watts (Jeff), Christy Marbut (Kevin), Jessica Yarbrough (Chris), Kevin King (Janine), Katie King, Kerry Minor (Jeff), Lindsay Creswell (Daniel), Brad Brooks (Beth); great grandchildren Lauren, Kendall, and Conner Watts, Brett Marbut (Alex), Blake and Brady Marbut, Jack Yarbrough, Katelynn King, Holden Minor, Jacob, Isaac, Judson, and Colby Creswell, and Grayson Brooks, and siblings Martha Allison, Dorothy Robertson, Clarence Myers, and Gene Myers.
Doyle moved to Atlanta area at age two. He attended Bass Junior High School and Tech High School. Following graduation from high school, he worked for Hartford Fire Insurance and attended University of Georgia Atlanta Division at night. During WWII he served in the US Army Air Corp from 1942-1945 attaining the rank of Major. He was a lead navigator and bombardier on B-24’s in the 15th Air Force, 450th Bomb Group based in Italy. During his service he was credited with 50 bombing missions involving campaigns in southern France, Ploesti and D-Day, earned 5 air medals and 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and was awarded Oak Leaf Clusters to his Distinguished Flying Cross for outstanding bombing in vitally important missions in northern Italy. After returning home from his service he remained in the Georgia Air National Guard at Marietta. In 1950 he was recalled to the Georgia National Guard and was stationed at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Georgia.
Following his time of military service Doyle worked for Amoco for 23 years and left there as Sales Manager for Georgia. In 1972 he went to work with Triton as Vice President for two years and then worked with Nu-Star Car Wash Company for 4 years. Lastly he formed his own company, Doyle Myers Assoc., dealing in car wash sales and service. At age 72 he retired from his business.
Doyle was a man of faith who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through his life Doyle worshiped and served at Oakhurst Baptist Church, Druid Hills Baptist Church, Clairmont Hills Baptist Church, and in the later years was an active member of Druid Hills Methodist Church for almost 40 years. Doyle had a humble servant’s heart and always put others before self. He was fiercely faithful and dedicated to his wife, Betty, whom he loved and respected and to his family. His main interests and past times in life were spending time with his family and doting on his pet dachshund, Heidi.
