Estelle Hodges Reece of Dunwoody, GA passed on January 21, 2022. She was 101 years old. She was born on January 13, 1921 in Dublin, GA. Her parents were Gus and Sally Munford Hodges. She graduated in 1940 from Dublin High School and in 1943 graduated from Georgia Baptist Nursing School where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse.
In Atlanta, GA - on a snowy Valentine’s Day in 1944 she married Wilburn Vaughn Reece and they were married for 53 years. Together they had 2 daughters, Carole Ann and Deborah Jean.
After her husbands death in 1997 she moved from Decatur, GA to Dunwoody, GA.
During World War II she worked with the Red Cross in Atlanta, GA and also Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, TX where her husband was stationed in the Army Air Force.
Estelle loved caring for patients and had many friends as she worked as a RN Floor Nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and, then as a RN Nursing Supervisor at DeKalb Medical Center from where she retired.
Estelle was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed. She dearly loved her family – her husband, her daughters and their husbands, her grandsons and their wives and especially her 4 great grandchildren. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews that she loved with all her heart.
She enjoyed all the churches of which she had been a member. Oakhurst Baptist, Indian Creek Baptist and Cross Road Church of Dunwoody (formerly North Peachtree Baptist Church). She especially loved going to Sunday School and treasured her teachers. For Estelle, her faith was very important.
She was very social and loved all her friends and was thrilled traveling around the world on many, many trips. Her favorite place was the Holy Land.
She proudly sewed clothes for her daughters as they were growing up. She hand made personal quilts and afghans for many of her friends and relatives. She enjoyed all types of needlework, cooking and loved to go shopping.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Jacobs, (husband Henry) grandsons Tom Apgar (wife Cindy), Richard Apgar (wife Cindy), and her great grandchildren, Calli, Ashley, Bailey and Jackson.
She was predeceased by her husband Vaughn, her daughter Carole Reece Sexton, her sisters Juanita Carter and Jean Cordero and brothers, GW, Earl and Raymond Hodges.
