Eugene T. Hickman, 93, of Decatur, GA, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2020, following a long illness. As a longtime DeKalb County resident, he was a faithful member of the Glen Haven Baptist Church in Decatur.
Mr. Hickman proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army during battles for Okinawa and Saipan in the pacific theater, and the occupation of Japan.
Mr. Hickman worked for the Royal Crown Cola Company as a route salesman out of their Atlanta bottling plant. Then later, he worked for the Jackson Cookie Company and Murray Biscuit Company, eventually retired from the Kellogg Company. In retirement, Mr. Hickman enjoyed woodworking projects and doing “handyman” work for family and friends. He could fix or build just about anything.
Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Hickman, parents Charles and Anna Hickman, sister Miriam Smith, brother Ellis Hickman, brother Lonnie Hickman, brother Nelson Hickman, daughter-in-law Diane Hickman, grandson Jeffrey Hickman, and great granddaughter Ashley Kilgore Acton.
He is survived by his sons Gene Hickman of Stone Mountain, GA, and Jim Hickman (Barbara) of Snellville, GA, brother Herbert Hickman of Lithonia, GA, granddaughter Candace Quinn of Grayson, GA, granddaughter Patti Kilgore (Gerald) of Loganville, GA, granddaughter Karen Fuhrmann (Alex) of Paisley, FL, grandson Chris Hickman (Jeannette) of Monroe, GA, great grandchildren Michael Mattern, Jamie Hickman, Aaron Kilgore, Kristen Binning, Zak Hickman, Ben Hickman, Sam Hickman, great-great grandson Dylan Mattern, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express thanks to the staffs of the Briarwood Health and Rehabilitation facility and the Regency House Assisted Living facility for the caring support they provided for Mr. Hickman. Also, a special “Thank You” to the Atlanta VA Medical Center (Bronze Clinic) for the medical care provided for Mr. Hickman.
Funeral services for Eugene T. Hickman will be at 3 p.m. on January 31, 2020, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Tucker, GA. Rev. Stan Berrong, senior pastor of Glen Haven Baptist Church will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
