Harold Carl Ballew was born on December 7, 1935 in Seneca, South Carolina. He was the 10th of 10 children to parents, James Ervin and Emma Timms Ballew. Harold grew up and studied in Greenville, SC, where he proudly earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Furman University and a Master’s Degree from Clemson University. Harold was a veteran of the US Army and retired as a virologist from the Centers for Disease Control in 1986. He then operated a rare book business at Scott Antique Market until 2016. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church for over 55 years and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Harold lived in the Tucker area for 55 years and enjoyed family time, travel, collecting antiques and genealogy. He passed away on November 16, 2019 after a lengthy battle with dementia. Harold is survived by his wife Jean Ballew, son and daughter in-law Hal and Penny Ballew, daughter Kim Dean, and 4 grandchildren, Jonathan & Caleb Dean, Addison & Caleb Ballew. Family will receive friends at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, GA, on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 1:00-2:30pm. Funeral will be held at 2:30 in the Chapel with graveside service immediately following.
