We cherish our memories of cousin Jean throughout the years, especially at family gatherings in Augusta, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, and Atlanta. It’s comforting to know that she now joins Claude, Sweet Vete, Leila, Rea, Claudia,  Lib, and Bonnie Faye for eternity. We can only imagine the joyfulness of that reunion. May the special memories you share together as a family and the love of God, family and friends comfort all of you. Prayers, love, and hugs from the Miller, Burns, and Luthin families in Florida.

I have so many wonderful memories of summers spent with you and Aunt Jean. My heart is broken for our loss but I know she is having a grand time in heaven with Granny Graham and Granny Goodyear.

I vividly remember the first time I met Chris & Mrs. C after they moved into our neighborhood in Tucker. Chris & I played in the front yard while our mothers went inside to chat. No telling how many pieces of pound cake I have eaten, some were “Chris style” (in a bowl with milk and sometimes chocolate syrup). She made one every Saturday, so we never ran out. I can see her and Grandma Graham sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and talking to us while we ate. Then when Chris told his parents if something happened to them, he would come live with us. Being only children, we had a strong bond. All the way through Georgia Tech and the many times Chris & I were together Mr. & Mrs. C would interact with & support us.  She was a wonderful woman and always cheerful. My family & I send our love.

I started working at The Pearl a few months ago where I met Mrs. Jean. It was my first time working in this field so I felt like a fish out of water when it came to what to expect. I never knew how close I would get to my residents and Mrs. Jean or Jeanie as I liked to call her was the very first resident I gravitated towards. I loved her spirit and energy. She was always so happy, even at 8 o'clock in the morning. She also had the best sense of humor about her; she was so funny. She also liked to wear these sunglasses she had to breakfast and lunch and I would just walk in and all I could do was laugh. There are so many memories in the short time I've worked at the Pearl, but she brought a smile to everyone's faces and she was so incredibly sweet. I will surely miss Jeanie and the liveliness she brought.

In 1974, my family and I moved to Tucker GA.  Mrs. Jean Carothers was the very first person I met and I will never forget that day.  It was a hot, August afternoon and I was a sad 9 year old who felt all alone.  We had no family or friends.  But as soon as she walked up our driveway with a pound cake in hand and that gorgeous smile, I knew we were going to be ok.  Our families became instant friends.  I have so many wonderful memories of this lady and I will cherish them forever.  She had the biggest heart and never missed my birthday.  She loved her family so much and it was beautiful to watch Hal and Jean’s love for each other grow through the years.  I will miss our long phone calls and our lunches to The Cheesecake Factory but I know she’s dancing in Heaven with her sweet mama!

I work at The Pearl at Loganville and had the honor to take care of Jean. She could brighten up everyone’s day with her smile and her funny jokes. She loved to sit in her chair and listen to music. Singing and dancing was something she loved to do. She adored Harold so much. She asked about him every single day. I’m so grateful to have known her and had the privilege to take care of such a beautiful woman inside and out. She will be truly missed be many!

My dear cousin Jean (2010) is second from left with (left to right), my sister in law, Becky Hughes (Jerry’s wife), Jean, Mary Winn Miller (our daughter) Lib Powell (Jean’s aunt, my Mom) and me, Veta Powell New. We are related through grandmother, Veta Holmes Goodyear. May the memories live long and the sorrow move away swiftly for all, especially Hal, Chris, Linda, and Max! Love, Ted and Veta New
