Jack Kirby Sr., age 105, of Stone Mountain, Georgia passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Sunday August 19, 2018. Jack and Dave (his twin brother) were born May 27, 1913 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was always very proud of his Irish roots.
Jack was a graduate of the Massachusetts Military Academy. During World War II he served as an officer in the U.S. Army 110th Cavalry Regiment. Jack commanded a tank division that saw active combat in Germany and Belgium. After the war, back in Massachusetts, Jack worked 15 years for Ford Motor Company until taking a position with Raytheon, a major U.S. defense contractor.
Jack enjoyed 67 years of marriage with his beloved wife Mary. Their primary focus throughout their married life was family and Church. After retirement from Raytheon, Jack and Mary followed their children southward to Georgia. They settled first in Tucker and then Stone Mountain.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia Foley Kirby, and his granddaughter, Stephanie Mari Parks.
Jack is survived by; daughter Mary Patricia Kirby; daughter Christine Kirby Cooley; daughter Kathleen Kirby Morgan; daughter Rosemary Kirby Martone; son John W. "Jack" Kirby; and son-in-law Carleton Peter Cooley; granddaughter Andrea Veltre, granddaughter Kristina Rollings, grandson Adam John Morgan and granddaughter Christiana Clark Cooley; many great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
A memorial mass for "Jack" will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen the Martyr, 5373 Wydella Rd., Lilburn, GA 30047. A visitation will occur Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.
In lieu of flowers, donations to "Helping Hands" at St. Stephens The Martyr Catholic Church would be appreciated.
