

Joe was born July 16, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia; he is the third child of the late William Foster Neel of Columbus and Peggy McGee Neel of Atlanta. Joe was named after his late Grandfather Joseph Edward Neel of Columbus, Ga.
Joe was a carpenter by trade. He served in the military in the Army and was assigned to the Americal Division. He did a tour in Vietnam from May 15, 1970 to October 7, 1071. One of his last assignments was at an FOB called Firebase Mary Ann. The FOB was attacked early one morning by the VC. A journalist wrote a book about this attack called "Sappers in the Wire".
Joe loved his dogs, especially Sam. He was a kind hearted person. Joe loved kids and helped with his niece Chelsea and nephew Charlie when they were growing up. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and camping.
Joe has a daughter, Angeline (Angel) Colleen Daeumer of Slidell, La. Angel is married to Mark Daeumer and has a daughter, Meghan Elizabeth Egdorf.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, William and Peggy Neel, and his brother, Marvin Russell (Rusty) Neel. He is survived by his siblings Steve and Linda Neel of Hammond, La; his sister Brenda and Larry McKelvey of Canton, Ga; his brother Charles (Ray) and Bonnie of Bay St. Louis, MS; his sister Nancy and Ron of Cumming, Ga; and his sister Kathy Ann Neel of Panama City Beach, Fl; and sister-in-law Debbie Neel of Kingsland, Ga as well nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Joe will be buried in Floral Hills Gardens in Tucker, Ga and will be placed next to our mother, Peggy Neel.
