Josephine Atkinson

Josephine Atkinson was born in St. Elizabeth Jamaica, to Alice Watt and Dudley Waite. She is the second of 4 sisters. She was a very beautiful, elegant, and resilient young lady who wanted to desperately leave her current living situation in the District of Jointwood to seek new opportunities.

While living in Jointwood, she met her first husband, Daniel Smith who was a very handsome and ambitious man. She delighted in him, his ability to make her laugh and for his encouraging words. They became very good friends and after Daniel migrated to London, he invited her to join him, there the pair married and gave birth to 2 lovely children, Evan and Elrie. They spent 7 years in England, London before returning home to Jamaica, to start a farm and raise their children in the district of Elderslie.

After returning home she gave birth to 2 more children Barrington and Gary. She lived a very comfortable and very Happy life for several years before her husband fell ill and died, she migrated to NYC with her children.

Now, imagine a beautiful young woman with four children in a new country with a determination to find her way in the melting pot of New York City. How did she mange to maneuver herself in a new and challenging environment? Well, she had to of the greatest inner resources known, the love for life and a unshakable confidence that her children will shine. During this time, she met Hainsley Atkinson, a handsome man who introduced her to a world of music, and dancing. The pair fell in love and got married within a few years.

Hainsley (pop) filled the role of a father that her children needed and we continue to love and respect him. She is , and forever will be, a shooting star in his eyes.

A visitation for Josephine will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at White Oak Hill Baptist Church, 5171 Redan Rd, Stone Mountain, GA 30088.
