Fortune had colorful careers. She married and moved to Atlanta where she began her first career as a ballroom dance instructor. Dancing was always her passion. She trained at the Arthur Murray Studios where she performed dance exhibitions, wan many awards and eventually opened her own studio. She Taught at private country clubs and homes, met wonderful people and loved it! After 12 years her next love was tennis. She played AA Alta, winning many trophies and plaques, playing competitively and eventually teaching life enrichment seniors - loved, loved, loved it. However, her knees eventually gave out and after four total knee replacements, she had to give up tennis.
Fortune had a secret mission which she finally fulfilled: feeding the homeless and hungry. She picked food up at Kroger and Panera and delivered one on one to "her guys". She did this for several years and found it very fulfilling.
Fortune was pre-deceased by her beautiful, talented rock star son, Rhett Forrester, her only child. she never recovered form this loss.
She is survived by her sister, Connie Cockerham: Granddaughter, Jade Florez the daughter of Rhett and Windi of San Antonio, Tx: Jade's children, Knoxlie, Haven, Ella and Ryan; Her beautiful niece (Connie's daughter) LaFortune Scott and her children, Shelby and Brady and her wonderful husband, Ted Scott; her newly found nephew Michael Mulder and wife, Jacqueline and they have been extremely helpful to her, last but not least, her precious dog Bijoux. Her church, Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), 2855 Briarcliff Road NE, Atalanta, GA 30329 and her friends especially Brenda, Louanne, Kathy, Lori, Mae, Jim, John, Norman, Phyllis and many others who were so caring and generous. She Loved and appreciated all of them.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2026 from 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, with a funeral service at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
