Leon was born on September 10, 1939, in Lithonia, Georgia to Amos and Floie Goddard. He began work at the Curb Market in Atlanta, and then with Colonial Stores in the produce market. He married Betty Lou Smith of Dacula, Georgia on December 14, 1957. In 1961, he went to work with Irvindale Farms, delivering milk to stores. Later, he began driving tractor trailers, delivering throughout the Southeast for Flav-o-Rich. He continued to work for the same company a total of 35 years, attaining the One Million Mile Safety Award. He retired in 1995.
Leon had a great passion for cars and motorcycles, scooters in particular. He had a large number of classic cars throughout his life, loving to restore them, and in particular Ford Falcons. He won numerous awards at car shows throughout the country. His passion also involved the Cushman Scooter Club, and taking rides with his friends and club members as often as he could.
Leon was always proud of his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Betty. He was the youngest of 4 brothers and 2 sisters, who all preceded him in death. He is also survived by his 3 children: Angie Steadham of Acworth, Georgia and her husband Charles, Ms. Debbie Morgan of Athens, Georgia, and Mr. Anthony Goddard of Monroe, Georgia and his wife Teresa. He has 7 grandchildren (2 of whom are deceased), and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and cherished lifelong friends.
Services will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. on August 29th, and services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 30th. Graveside service will follow at 1:30pm.
