Marilyn H. Mills, 99, of Atlanta passed away on April 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Mills, mother and father, Wesley and Eunelia Hagood, brothers, Delma and Boland Hagood, sisters, Lois LeCroy and Vivian Gillham, and her great granddaughter, Madelyn Moore.
Marilyn was born on May 23,1924 in Smyrna, GA. and married Tommy in 1943. She was employed by National Screen in the bookkeeping department, Dekalb County School System at Oak Grove Elementary as a lunch cashier, and at Rehoboth Baptist Church in the Mother’s Day Out program where she had the time of her life playing with the children.
Marilyn faithfully served alongside Tommy as he served as Minister of Music at several churches in the Atlanta area: Candler Park Baptist Church, Northwoods Baptist Church, Glover Baptist Church, and Briarcliff Road Baptist Church. She loved to teach Bible stories to the children as well as work in the Youth Department and as an Adult Sunday School teacher. While at Briarcliff Road Baptist she volunteered in the Clothes Closet. She would spend lots of hours at home mending clothes and enjoyed getting to know the people who came in.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Wilson (Tommy) and Vicki Timmerman (Ken); grandchildren: Michael Todd Wilson (Tanya), Kendra Moore (Chad) and Brittany Barrington (John); great-grandchildren: Micah and Hannah Wilson, Liam and Brayden Moore, Leo Barrington. Her greatest joy was being “Grandmother” or “Gran” to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family will miss her greatly but take comfort in knowing that she is present with the Lord. She was a spiritual warrior and a woman of faith who set an example for anyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank Marilyn’s wonderful caregivers: Alysia, Hycene, Ashley, Beryl, Beverly and Joann for all of their unconditional love, their compassion, their patience, and their deep commitment to her care. Thank you for walking every step of this journey with us. We are forever grateful.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 1:00 with a celebration of Marilyn’s life at 2:00 followed by a private burial on Monday, April 8, 2024.
