Merita P. Barefoot

Merita Weathers Poole Barefoot of Decatur, GA, moved on to her heavenly home on April 1, 2013. There will be a brief burial service at Floral Hills Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church at 3142 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA 30084.

Merita was an active member and beloved Nursery Coordinator of Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church in Tucker, GA for many years, sharing God’s love with children and later with many of their children. She was an active participant in the Joy Club and the Joy Bells as well as working to keep the church in spit & polish shape. When not at Lawrenceville Road she joined in the fellowship of the Valley Brook Baptist Church near her home in Decatur, GA. Not one to be idle, Merita worked cleaning homes and several beauty and barber shops in the area.

Merita was born on March 31, 1928, in Neuse, NC. She is survived by a son, Martin Averette of Cumming, GA, and her brother, Charles Poole, of Wake Forest, NC. She is also survived by a large extended family who enjoyed the earlier days of family reunions, vacations and get togethers. She will be sorely missed by 18 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and 8 great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Elbert Crowell Poole, Sr. & Swannie Weathers Poole and brothers James Poole, Elbert Crowell "E.C." Poole, Hugh Rodgers Poole, Mack Poole, sisters Lucy Poole Noble, Audrey Poole Merritt, and Nancy Poole Moore.
