Nina Michelle Thomson went to Heaven at the age of 17, on the evening of July 2020, at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta ( Egleston), surrounded by those who loved her the most and those she loved the most - her mother Margarita and her father, Tom.
Nina is survived by her mother Margarita Thomson, her father George (Tom) Thomson, her grandmother, Alla Ivanchenko, her sisters Kimber, and Robin, her brother Todd, her aunt Judy, her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Mazie Thomson of Humboldt, Tennessee, her great grandmother, Nina of Kiev, Ukraine, and her aunt Alyona of Kiev, Ukraine.
Nina went to Heaven following eight long years of battling cancer and over two years in the hospital together with her mother, who stayed with her constantly for the full time, and with whom she was inseparable, while attempting to recover from a bone marrow transplant.
Nina was born on September, 29, 2002 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She spent all of her too short life writing, drawing, or water painting, dancing, socializing with her friends, cooking gourmet meals with her dad and loving her family, people, animals, nature.
Nina’s favorite places on earth were her home and Disney World.
Nina was very intelligent, “straight-A” student at Tapestry Public Charter School. She was fluent in two languages- English and Russian, and conversational in a third- Ukrainian. She had been accepted for admission to the Dekalb School of the Art to major in creative writing and drama. Her health made her attendance there problematic.
Nina was smart, kind, talented, truly brilliant. She was wise beyond her years. She had such a love for God and people. Nina had so much spirit, nothing could stop her.
Nina attended North Point Community Church in Alpharetta.
The first thing everyone noticed about Nina was her beautiful eyes and her beautiful, long, flaming- red hair followed by her infectious smile that made everyone around her want to smile back.
Her friends and family will always remember Nina as the most beautiful, gentle and loving person they ever knew, who was full of life and joy.
Even though Nina was in so much pain and greatly suffered, especially during her final two years in the hospital, she still found her own strength by caring about others. She opened a special “Nina’s Art Corner” at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta Art Room ( Scottish Rite) where she donated her favorite books, writings and her favorite quotes to live by.
She was writing notes and painting pictures for her favorite doctors, nurses, techs, and many other people she loved. Nina left so much warmth and light behind her that will always shine.
The world is a better place because of her bright light.
Nina was strong, brave and fought with such grace!
She showed all of us what life is about.
Nina is completely healed now - she is in no more pain. She is dancing, drawing, painting, cooking, eating her favorite foods. She is happy and in peace. Nina is with the good Lord, our God, whom she loves with all of her heart.
Nina, the pain is unbearable, it’s hard to breathe without you. We know you want us to keep going. We will live right for you and we will be with you again one day.
You are our Sunshine girl, our bright light and you will live in our hearts forever.
We love you forever and always, our Sunshine.
